Grand Canyon National Park

Campfire and fire-use rules for this area, with each localized order the land manager has published.

Campfires only in developed sites.

Developed sites

Superintendent's Compendium dated June 16, 2026 (36 CFR 2.13). Fires are prohibited in all areas except those named, so campfires are allowed only in developed or designated sites. Wood and charcoal fires are prohibited in the backcountry, and Sterno or fossil-fuel backpack stoves are permitted there. Rim campgrounds and picnic areas allow wood and charcoal fires only in fire rings or elevated charcoal grills. Wood fires are never allowed at Redwall Cavern (River Mile 33). Along the Colorado River, wood and charcoal fires are permitted under River Permit conditions.

Before you go

We track each forest's orders and alerts. Every rule links to its source. Rules change fast in fire season, so check with the forest before your trip. Posted signs and official orders always win.
