Congaree National Park

Campfire and fire-use rules for this area, with each localized order the land manager has published.

Campfires only in developed sites.

Developed sites

The May 2026 Superintendent's Compendium (approved 27 May 2026) states that fires in the park are prohibited except in designated developed locations: fire rings at designated campsites, permanent grills at the Picnic Shelter, and portable grills at Longleaf and Bluff campgrounds and the picnic area. Fires must be contained, fuel is limited to charcoal briquettes or natural firewood, and fires must be extinguished without soil or sand. Backpacking stoves or contained cooking units with closed fuel sources are permitted in the backcountry regardless of wilderness designation.
