Capitol Reef National Park
Campfire and fire-use rules for this area, with each localized order the land manager has published.
Campfires only in developed sites.
Developed sitesThe January 2026 Superintendent's Compendium contains standing rules that limit open fires to developed areas. Open fires are permitted only in designated vehicle campsites and picnic areas, contained in grills, rings, or portable fire pans. Backcountry Vehicle Campgrounds at Cedar Mesa and Cathedral Valley allow fires only in fire rings or stand-up grills. The page gives no forest-wide or land-unit-wide ban, stage, or closure order, so the top-level posture is partial with developed-sites-only campfires.

Before you go
We track each forest's orders and alerts. Every rule links to its source. Rules change fast in fire season, so check with the forest before your trip. Posted signs and official orders always win.
