Coming from Gaia GPS

Bring over your waypoints, tracks, and routes, then organize them into trips.

You can bring your waypoints, tracks, and routes from Gaia GPS into Glassing with a GPX file. Review what to keep and which trips to put it in before importing.

Get your files out of Gaia GPS

Exporting a whole library takes more than exporting one waypoint. Gaia documents different options for iPhone and the web. These instructions were checked against its help pages on September 9, 2026.

On iPhone: export one type at a time

Gaia's iOS export guide describes bulk export by type:

• Open Saved and filter the list to Waypoints.
• Open the More menu and choose Export Waypoints. Save a GPX file to Files.
• Repeat for Tracks and Routes.

To include items already filed in folders, turn on Show Items in Folders in the Saved list's action menu. See Gaia's instructions for showing all saved items.

This gives you separate files to import, rather than one file for the entire library. If your app does not show those export options, use the folder method below.

On the web: gather items into a folder

Gaia's web export guide uses a folder for bulk export. Items outside that folder will not be included.

• Open Saved Items on the web map. Create a folder for the export, or use a folder you already want to move.
• Select the items to include, click the folder icon, and choose that folder. Gaia documents selecting one item and then the selection circle beside the three-dot menu to select the whole list.
• Check that the list's filters have not left out items you want.
• Open the folder's details page and use Export to download GPX. You can reach folder details through your profile menu's Folders list.

Gaia's folder guide shows the selection controls. If you already have useful folders, export them separately rather than reorganizing everything into one.

Open each file in Glassing

Open a GPX file in Glassing from the share sheet. If the file is in Files, tap the Glassing logo in Glassing, choose Import a file, and select it. Repeat for each exported file.

Keep the original exports until you've checked the imported counts and a few familiar places and tracks.

Check the places, tracks, and routes in the preview. Likely duplicates start unchecked. Leave them unchecked unless you want another copy. Nothing is added to your library until you tap Import.

Organize your trips

Glassing can suggest trips from where and when you saved your items. Check which trip the preview has selected. You can use the suggested trips, choose an existing trip, or make a new one.

If you want to keep a particular group together, import that group's file into its own trip. A GPX file may not preserve the folders you used in the original app. If you have a KML or KMZ file with folders, Glassing can use those folders to suggest trips.

Check waypoint symbols too. Glassing keeps symbols supplied by the file and can suggest a symbol from the name when one is missing. You can change a waypoint's symbol or move it to another trip after importing.

Bring photos separately

GPX does not include photos. If you have them in your photo library, open a waypoint and tap Add to attach them. Photos included inside a KMZ file import with their waypoints; linked images are not downloaded.

Before your next trip

Importing saved places does not download the maps around them. Download the grids for your destination, then check the area in airplane mode. Start here walks through both steps.
